I have been commissioned to apply my artwork to a new and exciting space at Bar Barista in Dewi Sant Hospital. Working with staff members I was able to gain an understanding of what was preferable in the space, outlining themes of nature and the landscape.
During my working progress on the project it was evident that the colour green and its use was of importance to the branding of Bar Barista. The space needed to apply as both sociable and professional, allowing an adaptive approach into how it works. This would allow some continuity between existing Bar Barista’s at other sites in South Wales.
I wanted to create an impact on the space that was meaningful to its users, triggering memory and developing conversation for both staff and patients. The back wall includes an image of the valley of Treorchy taken from Blwch mountain. The large scale creates an openness to the space and a sense of ‘being there’ overlooking the view.
The five panel sequence aims to create a sense of calmness and beauty in nature. The work was carefully considered and represented to offer a sense of place and sensorial experience through colour and symmetry. The central image is taken at ‘ The Common’ in Pontypridd and the others are all images of nature from the South Wales area.
